RICKI

“Was it really necessary to fly us here on a private jet?”

Blake grins. “Necessary? No. But fun, right?”

I giggle, as it really was wonderful. “The privacy was nice,” I admit with a blush. Needless to say we had the world’s most epic make-out session. “Really nice.”

“Mmm.” He looks out at the blue waters and the distinct lack of waves. “If I fly commercial it can quickly turn to madness.”

“Right. Of course.” I shake my head with an embarrassed smile. “Somehow it’s easy to forget you’re more than a pretty face, but a famous pretty face.”

Blake is gorgeous and when his lips tip into that sexy, laidback smile, all I see is his perfections. “That’s the best compliment I’ve heard in some time.”

I stare into the vast ocean and sigh. “Sorry to say, but I don’t think we’re going to get much surfing in this morning.”

“Yeah.” His shoulders dip. “I still can’t believe you lived here all this time and never learned to surf.”

I shrug. “I didn’t have a lot of friends in college so I didn’t make much time for fun. I figured it was better to finish school early and enter the real world.”

“Eager to start earning?”

“Yes, but mostly I thought I might find my tribe, you know? People who were like me or just liked me.” I feel silly sharing that with a guy like Blake and so I look away. “I doubt you understand.”

“I wouldn’t doubt that if I were you.” He shifts by my side, making me shiver all over. “People flock to me, sure. But is it because of my status or because of who I really am?”

“I get that.” I smile reluctantly and wrap him in a hug before pulling back with a mischievous smile. “I’ll race you back to the house. Loser makes lunch?” I run off as quickly as I can, knowing I stand next to no chance against a professional athlete but I’m laughing and having a good time trying to run in the soft sand.

Hours later, a man in a black chef’s coat is smiling at us as we take our seats at the table. “Lunch is served.”

I glare across the meal at Blake’s handsome, smiling face. “You said loser makes lunch and we have lunch.”

It’s a feast all right, of seafood and fresh fruit with enough grilled veggies for every member of the Arizona Sparrows. “Thank you,” I say to the chef who grins and walks away before I turn back to Blake. “You lost on purpose. I suspected it at first but now I’m sure of it.”

He flashes a sexy smile and the heat within sends a shiver through my body. “I wouldn’t say on purpose, exactly. The problem is that winning wouldn’t let me watch your ass in that polka dot bikini.” He winks and holy hell, a blush warms my skin starting at my toes.

I roll my eyes but can’t stop smiling at his compliment. “Well uh, thanks.”

He laughs. “You really don’t get it, do you Ricki?”

I blink.
